Introduce yourself, who are you?
My name is Akachi Ogbonnaya Ngwu, AON, a Nigerian and resident in Lagos, Nigeria. My career has spanned the marketing communications ecosystems with footprints in Out of home advertising, electronic, broadcast media, print media and digital media.
What genre of books have you written? Or how many books have you written?
This is my debut book. The genre is marketing, advertising, media and communications.
To you, what is the best book you’ve written so far?
I have just done my debut book; the best is yet to come as I am working on other books for the future.
What’s the best book your audience has read so far?
My audience is varied and it may only be a guess work on my part to state their best book. Audience read books for different reasons and so the best for one audience differs from that of another audience.
What is the most complex book you’ve authored so far?
Book authorship is quite complex no matter the size of the book, from the ideation and conceptualization, it takes a committed and disciplined person to go ahead in spite of all the odds. You may run into trouble if you are not knowledgeable about the book authorship, value chain, which involves getting your ISBN number and getting your book registered with the national library for copyright protection. In my debut book, I would say I learnt my lessons and would be more prepared in my next book project.
Connecting with consumers: insights engagement conversations is a practice based book written to encapsulate and dissect the various marketing communications tools in the light of emergent development in IMC ecosystem. The book covers genres including out of home advertising, branding and brand management, electronic, broadcast medium, social and digital media. It is written in an easy flowing style to enable the reader have a quick grasp of the concepts discussed in the book.
Describe your journey as a writer in a few sentences.
It has been a journey of mixed feelings but also worth the efforts one has put in. My journey as a writer started with writing marketing communications articles in two magazines; Research Intelligence Magazine and Financial Nigeria Journal, I owe the editors of the two magazines immense gratitude for providing me with their platform to showcase my writing skill.
What role does self-publishing have in your writing career?
It has enabled me to be a well-rounded author.
What problems did you experience while writing?
Writing is a creative endeavor, so most times you require concentration to think and do the writing.
What is your advice to aspiring writers?
Remain committed and dedicated to pursuing your writing gig. It pays off.
Akachi Ngwu has had a remarkable and distinguished career in media and advertising ecosystem spanning out of home advertising, electronic broadcast and print media. In 2018, he published his debut book on media and advertising with the title; connecting with consumers: insights engagement conversations.
Akachi is a top 10 business plan competition award recipient in 2014 from the Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Also, mentors budding entrepreneurs in TEF and successfully mentored a minute that received the seed grant of USD5, 000.00 in 2017. Akachi is a member of the editorial advisory board of Nigeria leading financial magazine, Financial Nigeria and also a columnist with the magazine.
Akachi has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Abia State University, Uturu and an MBA from the University of Benin, Benin City respectively. He is a registered Advertising practitioner with the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, APCON.
