Hello! great authors and readers, in today’s interview with Emem Bassey, to bring you her exclusive releases and other outstanding news. Stick around to learn more.
Dear Naijaauthor, introduce yourself, who are you?
My name is Emem Bassey. I’m 35 and graduated with a B. Sc in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in 2008. I’m from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and live there. I like describing myself as straightforward; in my opinion, beating about the bush takes too much valuable brain time. My hobbies are reading romance novels, seeing movies (romance too, most of the time), singing/listening to music and fun discussions with like minds. I also run a blog called ChuBBy and can be explored here – https://chubby25989233.wordpress.com/
WHAT GENRE OF BOOKS HAVE YOU WRITTEN AND HOW MANY?
Anyone scrolling through my Instagram page (@emembassey.thechubbyauthor) would already know my tagline – I write sexy romance featuring plus size women. And boy, have I written! I’ve published up to twenty books and still counting.
What’s the best book you have written so far?
This is difficult o. All my books are dear to me in their differences. I hate to choose. However, if I have to, it would be Pristine – slated for publishing next year.
What’s the best book your audience have read so far?
This would be the last part in the Duct Series – Moms.
What is the most complex book you’ve authored so far?
I’d take complex as meaning difficult to understand by readers. That will be 00:00AM (Dawn of Hope) and Wars. These titles can be found on okadabooks, through this link- linktr.ee/emembassey.
Age is No Bother is a 3 part series (Fine Wine, Fine Maple, Fine Scotch) detailing the lives of two silver fox men and one older woman as they find love with partners younger than them. These stories are assured HEAs, with hot love scenes and no cheating.
FINE WINE (Age is No Bother #1)
Sifon is a confident woman who knows exactly what she wants, especially, in a man. In her thirties, she co-owns a haulage company and is in the process of expansion when Manny, the 51 year old, sexy hotelier and pseudo parent to her business partner, literally, walks into her life. It’s love at first sight for her, although, it might take some work to convince the abrasive Manny that he’s the man of her dreams.

FINE MAPLE (Age is No Bother #2)
Agnes is 37, never been married, has two kids for a man who left her to marry a woman who wouldn’t add weight after childbirth, and owns a small pastry business she runs from her apartment. She is the description of what society calls an ‘old cargo’, a woman with kids whom no sane man would marry. She is okay with this reality and only lives to take care of her kids and grow her business.
Until Bass shows up at her door. He’s everything that’s wrong – he’s younger by seven years, he’s kind of an online celebrity, he’s her neighbour and her only friend’s cousin. It was a disaster waiting to happen but Bass thinks otherwise. Can Agnes dare believe his convincing words?
FINE SCOTCH (Age is No Bother #3 – coming soon)
28 year old Ad executive Mandy Uffot, has pestered Joe Akang, her landlord and 48 year old former Navy officer who was once married to Sifon’s late mom, since renting an apartment in his building. The memory of his dearly loved wife constrains him from entertaining his feelings for the brat mouthed Mandy. After eight years of celibacy, it didn’t make sense that his young, vivacious tenant turned his calm existence upside down in a few months. It didn’t make sense that he missed her bothersome presence when she traveled for over a month and went crazy jealous when he saw her in a picture with a man her age. Joe takes advice from his friends and discovers how uncontrolled he could be with Mandy, yet, he values his control too much to let go so easily. An almost tragedy has him re-evaluating his priorities, however, Mandy has become the uninterested party and Joe has to fight for her love.
Describe your journey as a writer in a few sentences
I have no formal training in writing. It’s been self-tutoring all the way. Even though writing is my main career path, I have to share it with reality – balancing my nine-to-five, family and other engagements with the art. Every decision I take has to favor my writing.
What role does Self-publishing have in your writing?
Freedom! Self-publishing gives me unlimited literary licence. With publishing houses, a writer has to stay in the purview of their values and norms. While self-publishing allows my creativity explode in whatever direction it pleases.
What is your advice to aspiring writers?
God always, He answers prayers. Consistency is paramount in writing, plus an open mind to every experience. As writers, we cannot stop learning. Additionally, dear writer, write what you know and love to read.
Emem Bassey loves romance in all its forms and writes what she calls a hybrid romance – love stories that aren’t plain romance, but include bits and pieces of other genres, definitely with a plus size heroine. She discovered the joys of writing at age 17 and hasn’t stopped since. She staunchly believes the world is filled with tragedy, so she writes to entertain and lighten the heart. Emem lives at Uyo, Akwa Ibom state and is basically a ghost to her neighbors.
